How to Prepare for Your Ultrasound

Abdominal Studies
Fasting for 6-8 hours (water allowed). Nothing to eat or drink except water.

Pelvic Studies
Full bladder required. Drink 32 oz of water 1 hour before appointment.

Other Studies
Most other ultrasounds require no special preparation. Wear comfortable clothing.
What to Expect
During Your Visit
- The technologist will explain the procedure and answer any questions
- A clear gel will be applied to the skin to help transmit sound waves
- The ultrasound transducer will be moved over the area being examined
- Most ultrasounds take 15-45 minutes to complete
- Images are reviewed by our medical team and results are typically available within 24-48 hours
After Your Ultrasound
- You can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure
- Results will be sent to your referring provider
- We'll contact you if any urgent findings require immediate attention
- Follow-up appointments can be scheduled if needed
